This little guy, a poison dart frog, is a submission for James Parkers' Windows to the Words Art challenge for July. It's "Dogs and Frogs" this month. I, for one, am thrilled! I love single subject pieces that I can really focus on. I got so excited when I saw the month's challenge posted, I grabbed my brush and did a quick sketch. My son saw it sitting there on my easel and claimed it before I had even started painting. Made my day. Now those of you who follow my blog know by now that I have to add in a little devotional thought to go with this guy. So, here it is... the struggle in life is to let ourselves be attracted to true beauty, not just the shiny package.... or in this case, the bold bright colors. I, for one, am a sucker for color. I guess the lesson is that sometimes it's best to "look but don't touch."

This little frog literally hops of the page. You did a great job with the shadows and highlights— it looks so 3-D!! I know your son is super excited to have it hanging in his room. Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog. I am so anxious and scared at the same time to paint something from the trip. I am in total awe of God's Creation—always was, but the beauty of Yellowstone was beyond words. Blessings!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is arguing with me about this being a painting or a picture. She thinks you took a picture, it looks so real! I want it in my room too!
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you like it! I hope it's an indication of some improvement of my skills. I'm tryin'!!! :) I sure had a blast painting it. I get so crazy about God's little creatures when I paint them. I marvel at the detail, the shape, the color. Wow. I know what you mean about being anxious and scared at the same time. There are so many things I'm still working up the nerve to attempt. Thanks so much for your feedback. It means so much! God bless!
Jenny,
What a cool thing coming from Miss Sam! I shall take that as a HUGE compliment. And...I'll show her the painting in a couple of weeks when I see her. Tell her she made my day! So glad you liked it!
I LOVE IT!!!! You are so awesome!!!! I want to come over and see all your art work!! I'll bring the wine! Oh, and the chocolates! Kay
ReplyDeleteSuper, Julie!!! The JPeg went on perfectly, so your little Dendrobates Pumilis is munching away happily on Windows to the Words Art. Excellent job on this little fellow...the creek by my place when I lived in Costa Rica was full of em along the banks in the leaves. About the size of a pencil eraser, the blue jean frog is toxic, but not as potent as his cousins, the Philobates. Thanks for participating.
ReplyDeleteKay,
ReplyDeleteYou are biased, my friend. ;) Ha. Thanks. I'm so happy you like them. Sounds great! Tell me when and I'll get cheese and crackers to go with it!
James,
Thank you so much for your kind words. You know what a gift positive feedback is!! And, thanks for the information. I love to learn new things - especially when it has to do with God's little creatures - so awesome, so fascinating! You should check out this great website that sells videos about God's creatures. The videos are called "Amazing Creatures That Defy Evolution." The site is www.explorationfilms.com. God's blessings and thank you again!
Hi Julie - just came over from Windows to tell you I love your frog painting. You made those colors just sing! Great job!
ReplyDeleteNancy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for "hoppin' on over!" Sorry, couldn't resist a bad joke. I'm so happy you enjoyed the painting and appreciate so much your kind comments. Thanks for following. I pray it'll be a blessing!
